Hi all,
Well, BlizzCon is now in my past. What a blast it was though!! I got to meet the guys who do the Penny Arcade comics and PvP comics, jump around to the Offspring in the nerdiest mosh pit I've ever seen, ROTFLMAO with Christian Finnegan, actually hang out and chat with the owner of Blizzard (he LOVED my wings!!) and do so much other cool stuff that my face hurts from smiling and laughing (or maybe it was that shoulder to the cheek incident in the mosh pit...).
I played the new WoW expansion pack. Basically they have decided to "age" the current world and add a portal to a brand new world. They are adding on a couple new races (a Blood Elf race on the Horde side - no word yet on what the Alliance one will be). I played part of the expansion pack about 5 times (they only let you play a half hour at a time) and I can't wait for it to come out!!
The server / realm meet up was awesome. We got interviewed by IGN. I'll post the link when it's up on their site. I got to meet a bunch of people I play with already and make a bunch of new friends I can't wait to see in game!
Gotta go hang out with my friend Deanne now...more later...

Well, it's settled...Blizzard just announced their official costume contest at the convention. Guess I'd better get working on it! I'm still trying to find out the rules regarding what I'd be allowed to bring into the Anaheim convention center. Would be a shame to ship stuff all the way out there only to be denied at the door.
I'm thinking I'll go with the Night Elf Druid, but still...there is a category for most creative...Spirit Healer? Quest giver? Character who's had too much Noggenfogger Elixer? (don't think I could pull off the skeleton look...). I just think there are going to be a ton of night elves there, so that could be some stiff competition...might be more likely to win by going for most creative...
Thoughts, ideas?

Now I'm seriously thinking of trying to fit GenCon into the mix. It's at the same location as BlizzCon (Anaheim Convention Center) just a couple weeks later. If I just extend my vacation by another few days...
*sigh* Just what I need...and addiction to game "stuff"...I'm already hooked on the games...please post a comment to this with the link to the 12 step program I need... Should I just give in now and audition (somehow I don't think "interview" is quite the right word) for the job of booth babe?

They finally announced the "goodie bag" for BlizzCon. I am so excited! There is a bunch of pretty cool stuff. A slick looking t-shirt, and in-game pet, a deck of cards with Warcraft artwork...and more... There was a lot of criticism at first about the price of the convention ($120) and not getting much for the money. Maybe I'm an optimist, but I just had to put my faith that a company who develops such cool games will pull off a cool con. I think it is kind of fun how they are just revealing a little at a time. Sure, maybe they just don't have their act together...but if so...they are doing a good job of making the best of the situation!
I'm still totally torn about the costume...I talked to Deanne last night and she was totally up for me doing something elaborate and shipping stuff out to her. She's in the entertainment industry and was all about helping me get dressed up for this thing. It *is* so close to halloween that a kick-ass costume will get at least 3 uses out of it...how often can you say that!? So, now I'm rethinking my whole "keep it simple" strategy and may go all out.
How do you think I could make my weapons glow? I do have this pretty cool glowing crystal necklace. I could put that just below the quartz crystal on this wooden staff I have and hopefully it will make the larger crystal glow.
Another effect this costume thing has had on me...you know how some women try to lose weight for their wedding, reunion, whatever? Well, I think this is my motivation...whenever I feel like eating that "extra" piece of pizza 3 words pop into my head "night elf costume". Have you seen the outfits those chicks wear?
Ok, so I'll get my act together and post some pics soon...I'll probably put most of them in the BlizzCon photo gallery area here...
Also...I'm excited for Disney and Vegas after the convention!
Cheers,

Sooo...here's the latest costume issue...BlizzCon is 3000 miles away. If I want to have a *really* kickass costume I'll have to either ship stuff to my friend Deanne ahead of time or drive out there (5 days EACH way). I don't think the airlines will take too kindly to me bringing staffs, swords and armor on the plane. *sigh* What's a girl to do? Even if the contents aren't "quest-ionable" (get it get it???) there is still a lot of bulk involved and I'd most likely have to bring at least an extra suitcase (those cloaks are big).
This would be the perfect place to wear all my cool stuff...but it just doesn't seem doable. Good thing I'm working at the Renaissance Faire this summer...at least I'll get to wear it there...
That green shirt is looking better all the time...
Ooooh...maybe instead of my night elf character I could go as a Spirit Healer (since I do tend to die a lot) and just wrap myself in a sheet and make a pair of wings. I'll have to ponder this...definitely has potential...my hair is blonde enough to almost pass for white...

So I think I've found the first piece of my BlizzCon Costume...

Hi all,
Although this topic has nothing to do with ColdFusion, it qualifies as somewhat geeky / techie so I thought this was as good a place as any to chronicle my preparations for and journey to BlizzCon 2005 in Anaheim, California. For those of you who don't know what this is, check out www.blizzcon.com. Basically it's a MMORPG / adventure games convention sponsored by Blizzard (who makes a bunch of these games).
So, I've got my tickets. Got my hotel room. I've got the days off from work and I have a plan. Probably buying a plane ticket would be a good idea...
I'm heading out there for 2 weeks to visit an old friend, go to BlizzCon and then hit Vegas baby!
My current dilemma - to dress in costume or not? Well, considering the conference is a couple days before Halloween and right near Hollywood, I suppose it's a "moral imperative" (what movie??)!
So...how to make my 5'4" self look like a 7' Night Elf Druid...stay tuned...
Aymii
