Opening KeyNote address with Ben Forta, Tim Buntel, and some other guy, interestingly focused on examples and demos that linked ColdFusion to Adobe features.
Two announcements:
1) Coldfusion 7.0.2 has been released today
2) Flex Builder 2.0 has been released today
Flex Builder 2.0 pricing = $499
Flex 2.0 SDK is FREE
Demoed Flex Builder wizard. Pretty cool if you think wizards are anything special. Not incredibly impressive.
Cfform is now essentially obsolete in lieu of Flex 2.0. Sigh.... when will this stuff ever stabilize. This reminds of typical Macromedia stuff of the past. Releasing Generator 2.0 and then making it obsolete in 1 year. Last year, cfforms and xml forms were THE RAGE. One year later they are obsolete. All those SUCKERS who purchased Flex 1.0 for $15,000 will remain suckers for the rest of their lives.
I'm so discouraged from learning anything new (from Macromedia/Adobe) for fear of it being rendered useless in a short while. This is where open sources projects like AJAX are so much more appealing. They aren't going away. I'm terrified of investing time learning Flex because it probably won't exist in 2 years. The "curve" of Flex is climaxing. It is terribly complicated... even with the wizard. This is usually a sign that something else is going to come along to simplify all of the lessons learned while creating Flex.
Attended the Flex/ColdFusion Coding Kitchen which was meant to be a 3 hour clinic coding a Flex/CF application. It was a fiasco for a number of reasons:
1) Registration for limited seats.
In order to attend this session, you were required to register to get a seat. I did this. I arrived at the session to find all seats taken because NOBODY WAS CHECKING FOR REGISTRATIONS. What's the point of HAVING registration if you are not going to enforce it. Are we doing this or not? I was lucky to find an empty chair along the back wall with my laptop on my... um... lap.
2) Got started 1.5 hours late due to NO PREPARATION.
We had to wait as a few CDs got passed around the large room while people uninstalled old versions and installed new versions of CF 7.0.2 and Flex Builder 2.0. This was PAINFUL.
3) The rest of the session consisted of actually stepping through the demo of the Flex Buider CF Wizard. Um... didn't we already see this during the Keynote?
